An Epic Journey

Well, we have been very busy since early January making and collecting winter hats for the less fortunate. Presently, we are just over 1,500 fans on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/EmilysHatsForHopeInitiative We have had great success reaching out to people for help through social media. People from as far away as England and Iceland have sent us hats!

On July 27th Emily was interviewed on WNBC in NYC regarding Emily's Hats For Hope Initiative. http://www.nbcnewyork.com/video/#!/on-air/as-seen-on/Emilys-Hats-For-Hope/164095756 Since January, Emily has made and collected 2,000 winter hats! She has donated 600 to several NJ based outreach organizations, including soup kitchens in Morristown & Dover, the Father English Community Center in Paterson, the InterFaith Food Pantry in Morris Plains, & Trinity Church in Asbury Park. Another 200 hats were brought to Elmira, NY where they will be distributed in that area. This Dec. 1,000 hats will be distributed to community centers in the Appalachia region in KY, one of our nation’s most impoverished areas. 200 hats remain in storage and will be distributed this fall to the homeless and working poor in NJ.

Several members of our Facebook group have started their own Chapters of Emily's Hats For Hope Initiative! We have Chapters in PA, WA, KY, ME, IA and OK. VT and TX might be just around the corner as well. Emily's long term goal is to have a Chapter in every state.

Emily has received letters of recognition from NJ Assemblyman Anthony M. Bucco & NJ Governor Chris Christie.

We also launched a new website this past month: www.EmilysHatsForHopeInitiative.org
